Profile of Shenac Rogerson

So you’re thinking, who is this Shenac Rogerson and just how do you pronounce her name? (‘Shee-na’, actually). Am I a former exotic dancer? You never know. I am, however, a child of the sixties, born in Chester in 1962, which no doubt accounts for the vibrant colours I now use! Today I live in Leicestershire with my husband, two children and an over exuberant dog George & his friend Sox.

How did this all start? I studied Graphic Design at Coventry and on graduating pursued my career as a graphic designer. This culminated in running my own business for twelve years, until I came to my senses and realised that what I really wanted to do was create art rather than produce artwork.

With the business sold, and with the eyes of someone seeing something for the first time, I explore the colour and shape of natural things and other everyday objects. At school I was not renowned for sitting still and quietly in class. Now, ironically, this is exactly how I prefer to spend my time, experimenting with inks to produce flower studies full of bold colours and dramatic design. Once familiar objects take on new and exciting forms in my work, as I apply the perspective of a fresh pair of eyes. I plan to develop this approach further into other fields of artistic study.
